This prelude is a free treatment of the much loved Norwegian Christmas song "Deilig er den himmel blå". The original melody was written by a ship captain named Jacob Gerhard Meidell in 1853. The melody (with lyrics from a range of different authors) eventually found it's way into both Danish and Norwegian psalmbooks, and has been a traditional part of advent observances ever since.
